Do you have enough fingers on two hands to count the number of times you have heard Matthew 7 verse 1 used as a social media rebuke recently? “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” It sounds pretty straightforward, doesn’t it? And it’s enough to stop most people dead in their tracks. But we don’t think those words mean what people think they mean, and we also think it’s a good idea that we learn to counter this rebuke. If there is a leading criticism found online today it has to be this… We (the world) have had enough of Christian thoughts and prayers! To some degree, God agrees according to the book of Chronicles where it reads: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” God wants us to be in prayer about our own hearts and homes. Prayer is not the absence of action; it is the very thing that makes our actions effective. And how much more so when our prayers are for our children!
